| Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. -- Marianne Williamson |
| God's Word is Alive |
|
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 I find that I have to constantly be on guard so that my favorite passages of scripture do not become familiar to me. This verse is one of the reasons that we must be careful to look at God's Word with an open spirit. If we allow it, His Word will change our hearts. Did you notice that the Word judges our attitudes? Joyce Meyer recently said, "Attitude is our thinking turned inside out."
The words that come alive for me are feelings and values. Attitude includes emotions but that's not all it includes. It also includes our beliefs. Thus, the Word of God will look into your heart to judge all three of these. It's often been said that attitude is everything. Based on this definition, it's easy to see why. Attitudes are complicated. However, they can be changed. It is my belief that aligning my priorities (or the value I place on things) properly gives me the ability to have the right attitude. For example, if I place God and His Word at the highest position in my life, then things that are contrary to what He has said will not affect my behavior. This gives me the freedom to choose how I feel about circumstances rather than react to it. I also believe that the Word will change my circumstances: He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. - Psalm 107:20 This fact gives me further confidence that God's Word will change things. That's why I choose to have a great attitude regardless of the what's going on around me. Do you have this confidence?
