Get Ready: The Plowman Will Overtake the Harvester

"The days are coming," declares the LORD,
"when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman
and the planter by the one treading grapes.
New wine will drip from the mountains
and flow from all the hills. (Amos 9:13)

This is an incredibly encouraging scripture. I want to focus of the first line "the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman". When I was meditating on this scripture this morning, I considered what this means. So, let's break it down a little. The reaper is also known as the harvester. The harvester is the one who actually takes the grapes that are ready off of the vine. The plowman is the one who prepares the soil for the next planting.

Thus, if the plowman is overtaking the harvester, this means that the seasons are being shortened. Typically, there is a waiting period after harvest to allow the soil to recover. Then, the plowing starts at the appropriate time to plant when the seed will have the right conditions available to produce. This time is coming and may already be here when the process of seedtime and harvest is expedited.

In a practical sense, we know this time is upon us with the coming of age of the internet. We are able to spread the gospel message at a rate that is so much faster than ever before. So, as you go through your day, consider the seed that you are planting. Are you planting good seed? Are you seeing a harvest?
