Obedience Brings Wealth

In my reading this morning, I came across a verse that made me want to know more. If you have a reference Bible, have you ever looked up the scriptures that refer to the words in the verse? This is what I decided to do with the following passage:

1 Praise the LORD.
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who finds great delight in his commands.

2 His children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.

- Psalm 112:1-3
This passage clearly states that fearing the LORD and delighting in His commands brings wealth and riches. "Riches" refers me to Deuteronomy 8:18:

"But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today."

God is Our Wealth Power Source
This tells me that God is the one who gives me the power to get wealth, and it is part of His covenant with me. This passage, interestingly, refers me to Genesis 26:13:

"12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. 13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy."

It is clear here that Isaac became rich materially (as in stuff) because of the LORD's blessing. A 100 fold return in a time of drought in the land is clearly beyond Isaac's natural ability. The scripture is unfolding right before my eyes. Not only is it God's desire for me to be RICH, but he wants to be the source of my acquiring that abundance. In addition, it doesn't matter what the economy around you is doing, The Blessing comes from God. He will give you the ability to get wealth wherever you are. Are you ready to dance, yet? Hang on, it gets even better.

Show God Honor
The next reference seemed out of place to me at first:

"and now I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you, O LORD, have given me." Place the basket before the LORD your God and bow down before him. - Deuteronomy 26:10

Then, it struck me, this is a command. Earlier we learned that the person who delights in God's commands has wealth and riches. The cool thing about having wealth and riches is that you can spend some now and have some later.

In case we are unclear about what wealth is, the next passage clarifies it somewhat:

The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. - Deuteronomy 28:4

Your present and your future are blessed. Your family and business are blessed. Multiple avenues of provision are blessed. You produce and your production capability are blessed.

For You and Your Descendants

13 He will spend his days in prosperity,
and his descendants will inherit the land.
- Psalm 25:13

With Not Trouble Added To It
Unlike the man who cheats and steals to acquire riches, the man blessed of the LORD will enjoy it.

22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth,
and he adds no trouble to it.
- Proverbs 10:22

Your Intelligence is Irrelevant
One of the most fascinating references to me is the following:

11 I have seen something else under the sun:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.
- Ecclesiastes 9:11
So, for everyone out there saying to themselves, "yeah, but...". There is no but, Wealth and Riches are available to the person who 1) Fears the LORD, and 2) Finds Great Delight in His commands. These are the qualifications for God's guilt-free, trouble-free wealth system. Do you qualify?
