Learning to Listen to God

Posted on 08 March 2010 by Bill Tyler

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. – John 10:27

Have you ever tried to quiet your mind? I mean really try to think nothing? I tried this exercise recently and found it to be very difficult. I know there are various techniques that enable you to quiet your mind for a period of time; however, the quiet can’t last forever.

The interesting thing about this exercise is that I realized that my mind communicates to me during my waking time primarily in voices. The voices are only audible to me; however, they are definitely a sound in my thought realm.

The bigger question is whose voice is speaking to you? Often the voice sounds like you, sometimes it doesn’t. You know the voice sounds like you because you know the sound of your voice and what you would say. Do you know when God is speaking to you? The Bible refers to a still, small voice. If you listen carefully, you’ll realize that God is frequently speaking to you.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

Lord, Is My Way Pleasing to You?

Posted on 21 August 2009 by Bill Tyler

As a way of monitoring your actions, consider asking God, “Is my way pleasing to you?” If you are doing something that is not God’s will, He will reveal it to you. Since God knows the end from the beginning, sometimes our own thoughts about what we should do will cut off God’s best for us.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.-Psalm 19:14

When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.-Proverbs 16:7

The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him.-Proverbs 15:26

I want to be in that place at all times where my ways are pleasing to the Lord. So, I challenge you today to ask yourself, “Are my ways pleasing to the Lord?”

Visualize What You Want

Posted on 11 August 2009 by Bill Tyler

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:24 (NIV)

In the verse above, Jesus clearly says that we will get what we ask for, which should be what we desire. With this verse in mind, why aren’t people more successful? I would like to submit to you that people don’t generally know how to properly desire success.

My observation is that most people focus on what they have, which is generally what they don’t want. If someone wants more or different from what they have, the secret is to desire what you are missing not what you are currently experiencing. Thus, when you pray, pray for what you want, not what you have.

Spend time today picturing yourself being what you want to be. Do you want to be fit? Imagine in your mind’s eye that you have the exact body that you want, that you eat precisely as you should, and you enjoy exercising. Don’t forget to thank God for causing this image to come to pass in your life. Remember, He said that you would have whatever you asked for. Make this image as clear and detailed as possible. Now, look for opportunities to make this image come to pass. You’ll be amazed how information, relationships, and resources start appearing to help you get to what you desire.

God wants to give us what we desire. Thus, it would make sense that one way to please God is to desire something. What do you desire today?

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” – Mark 11:24 (KJV)

Flexibility Brings the Blessing | Part 1 of 4

Posted on 14 July 2009 by Shontta Stevens

The current social and economic atmospheres are a breeding ground for a myriad of negative thoughts, emotions and actions. With so many people facing dire financial, vocational and family woes, you may find yourself “wishing” you were someone else, with someone else — living life in another person’s shoes. Simply wishing and daydreaming won’t change circumstances. But, being flexible can change everything.

And coupled with the Blessing of the Lord, flexibility can change your life. In Genesis 12:2-3 God not only told Abram that He would be blessed, but that he would be a blessing. And in Deuteronomy 28:1-14, God said that every thing they put their hands to would be blessed. What type of flexibility did this require? In both of these references God also commanded his followers to be flexible in their actions. The human being had to make changes. Abram had to leave his kinsmen. The children of Israel had to fully obey the commands He was giving them. Herein is where flexibility brings the Blessing. I’ve witnessed people hinder the Blessing in their lives because of a lack of flexibility in certain areas. I’d like to share some insight on these. Vocational, financial, mental, emotional and spiritual flexibility can enhance your daily life and perpetuate the Blessing no matter the environment.

Imagine a person full of life, movement and vitality who is suddenly stifled by arthritis or paralyzed in an accident. These circumstances would be quite dejecting to this individual who is now unable to move at will. The same concept is applicable to the aforementioned areas of flexibility. God said in Malachi 3:6, “I AM the Lord, I change not.” This verse identifies the fact that if we are going to walk with God we must be flexible — we must be willing to change. And God is so all-powerful that He causes us to become more flexible the more we conform to His will and ways. We become more like Him. This type of malleability cements us in the fact that acting on the unchanging Word of God brings us into unlimited ability and freedom.

Be blessed friends and have the perfect day everyday!
Psalm 138:8
